After two days of rehearsal we brought it! I was a bit nervous at first because I really wanted to embody the character I was playing but I had to trust God, my training and professionalism to deliver. I am still hype about this performance and I'm so #thankfuI. I got the chance to be directed by thespian, Ted Lange, Isaac Washington from "The Love Boat" who also wrote the comedic play "Four Queens-No Trump"! Then to work with Mrs. Meryl Lynn Brown again is always a pleasure. I finally got the chance to meet for the first time my Facebook comrade Tee S. Hawkins! I also met the beautiful Baset Sat-Ra and the accomplished Bill Egan! This whole cast is talented and professional which prompted Ted Lange to say, "That's what I'm talking about when you work with professional actors they make your job easy as a director." As TS Hawkins said, "What a groove night!!!" Thanks Rebekah!!! I was elated to receive a phone call from the guest artistic director, Ozzie Jones, to be cast in this timely classic "God's Trombones" written by James Weldon Johnson, who also wrote the Negro Anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing". I am in awe that I'm acting in a featured piece presented by The New Freedom Theatre located on Broad Street.
Years ago I wrote that one of my goals is to go from the Avenue of the Arts, Broad Street in my hometown of Philadelphia to Broadway, New York as well as major films. As I look back over my life and see my dreams and goals coming to fruition is astonishing and I thank the Lord. His words are true - “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. ” Proverbs 18:21 I speak life over myself! Lord knows I want to use my God-given talents and gifts to serve others. So to top-it-off the preview for "God's Trombones" was moving. It touched my heart to hear the feedback from the audience. Allen Boyd said, "Enjoyed the Show last nite powerful work moving and inspiring brought a friend out to see it and after the show he had reflecting moment on his life and shedded a tear on how he wanted to change his situation. Hats off to you sir Ozzie Jones and Cast of God's Trombones!" Some related to the Prodigal Son and shared their story too. It was so many great comments about this show and we haven't began touring the churches. I'm looking forward to what God is going to do! |
