After attending a wonderful service at Harvest America, my friend, Jamyra, and I went to the Philly Fashion Expo to learn more about the event that will take place at the historic John Wanamaker Building Friday February 21st 2014. We had the chance to meet Mr. Ron and Mrs. Julie Wilch, the Founders, and made some nice connections with Designers. One of the Designers being "Ms. Chalane Collection" elegant dresses ready for the Red Carpet . Mr. Ron also informed us about The Charity Organization "Boys to Bosses", an urban young men self improvement program which is great! We have to save our young men. I attended the Curvy Closets casting call and their team had a sunny personality. They were so friendly and bubbly like me which made my experience enjoyable. I arrived at the end of one of the sessions and I got to see the ladies walk…they were brining it. After they left more ladies were coming in. I filled out my application, got measured, and the adrenaline was going for I knew I was going to be the first to walk in this session. I said my prayers as the space got quiet as the Curvy Closets team gave their introductions, the cause of the fashion show, and then it began. My heart felt like it was in my stomach when they called my name. I walked over to the starting point, posed, and began to stride. Again the adrenaline was going…I blocked everything out and could literally hear my heels hit the ground. When I made it to the end the judges were smiling and one said, "Slow down." I took her direction as I walked back and heard the lovely Ms. Colleen say, "Tamara, I want you to walk again without the arms". The second time I walked, I was calm and it felt natural and I heard a soft whisper, "Yes." When I made it back all I could say was "Thank you LORD!" I'm so glad I went I felt like I CONQUERED those "NOs". All the ladies looked good. It was an amazing turn out. Another thing I noticed was the strong cohesion amongst the women. They were looking out making sure tags were inside their clothing before the ladies went to the walk way. I really enjoyed myself at the Curvy Closets Casting Call. I'm ELATED to be a part of this experience, cause, and history for Philadelphia! I'm looking forward to the fitting. I MADE IT! Happy Sunday Everyone! As I woke up this morning I thought about "My Journey" as a Model. I started my modeling journey in 2003 and at that time I was much smaller. I attended an event and had two representatives from two different major model agencies were interested in me. I was ELATED to be picked! However, when I received my consultation they told me I wasn't small enough. You can imagine how I felt inside...all of the excitement came tumbling down. I prayed and asked God, "Why can't they accept me for who I am, how you made me?" After numerous model calls I kept receiving the same answer. After that I took a break. During that time like some of us I gained weight which I'm now in the Plus Size division. Last year I went to the model call and made it for the Hair 4 Haiti Extravaganza Charity Fashion Show which IGNITED my desire to MODEL AGAIN. The past year I still faced challenges as I went to model calls. This time it appeared that I wasn't big enough. I prayed again and asked God, "What am I suppose to do?" Nevertheless I kept going...I'm WALKING in VICTORY! In JESUS NAME! Amen. Stay tune... Lately, I have been having a burning desire to dance again. I submitted to a 90s Flash Mob Dance ad and received the choreography. As I watched it the first time I knew I was going to have a good time practicing the routines. To my surprise I thought I was just going to get up and start and get it...NOT. :) When I did get through the dance routine for the show...what a workout?! Today is the dance and I had the "Poetic Justice" look as my outfit. There were cameras everywhere so I will not be surprised if its on youtube. The 90's Flash Mob Dance was a success. The crowd enjoyed it. Today was the last show (for now) for "Why Can't We Be Friends". As I reflect this evening, I'm really glad to have been a part of this Anti-Bullying production. This matter hit home for me; I and my little brother (RIP) was bullied coming up in school. This message was heard, received, and very much appreciate by all. The Teach Anti-Bullying USA, presentation and message was awesome. It made people cry, think, remember, and devote themselves to helping our youth promote love not hate. Thanks to Christopher Hopson and Charron Monaye for this wonderful opportunity to do do a play with a purpose. Also, thank you to everyone that came out to support this bully awareness production. Looking forward to doing it again. |
