We just wrapped up two episodes for the upcoming documentary series "PhiladelphIa: The Great Experiment" with the Emmy Award winning HISTORY MAKING PRODUCTIONS. The film is about the early settlers to Philadelphia, the Lenape Indians and William Penn. I played the role of a slave to be sold at a Slave Trade. It was an EMOTIONAL experience. After I put on the wardrobe and was lead to setup the scene, I began to internalize what it must have been like to be a slave. My mind was racing as I stepped up on the block. My right eye began to water and as all the actors were being placed and we received our instructions I BROKE; The Tears Were Streaming. My instructions was to be a strong slave. So when the cameras began to role, I wiped my tears, took a deep breath and stood as a STRONG BLACK WOMAN who was mad because I KNEW MY WORTH. This piece was so COMPELLING some of the actors in the scene couldn't look at us. They told us that we were BRAVE. One of the directors said "It was POWERFUL! I teared." I can only imagine what it was like for the actors who did a full feature film as a slave such as "Amistad" and now "12 Years A Slave". I'm looking forward to our premiere.
